Diagnosis: Breast cancer
Chemo Regimen: Taxotere/Cytoxan
Total Treatments: 4
At age 31 in March of 2019 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I had surgery to remove the 2.1cm tumor in May, and although it hadn’t spread to my lymph nodes, my Oncotype score was high (26) so it was recommended to still have chemotherapy. I was lucky and had the option to go with the less aggressive regimen, Taxotere and cyclophosphamide x 4 cycles. Though it was less intense than other chemotherapy regimens I would lose my hair after the first session. So, I decided to use DigniCap.
I was thrilled with the results overall. The fact that I went through 3 months of chemo and strangers would never know I was a cancer patient was very rewarding. I finished chemo 3 months ago and my hair still sheds, but I have most of it. I’d say overall, I lost about 30-40%. I had a bald patch on the crown of my head which is not noticeable at all now, as hair is growing thick and fast. My hair thinned all over so much, but I know it’s not forever. I also hope that using the cold cap will prevent me from getting alopecia, so although it didn’t save all my hair, let’s hope it helps me maintain a nice head of hair in the future.
I’d be happy to talk to anyone unsure of making the scalp cooling decision. Thank you to the wonderful DigniCap team! Especially to Lisa. Xx
